How to protect your skin & hair this holi, Do’s and Don’t “ – Dr. Rakesh Kr. Mishra
Holi, a festival of colours, signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.
People love playing with colours which are not often found to be safe or skin friendly. Colours used in Holi does a lot of damage to our skin than we can ever imagine.
Dr. Rakesh Kr. Mishra, renowned and one of the best dermatologist in Siliguri, pens down some really important tips to protect our Skin from the adversities of harmful colours.
DO’S
- Protect yourself with clothes as much possible
- Apply enough moisturiser/cream/ coconut oil (body) before going out
- Apply waterproof sunscreen lotion
- Oil your hair and can also wear a cap for extra protection
- Avoid chemically mixed colours. Organic / herbal colours are always preferable and skin friendly. Try Red or Pink colours.
- In case irritation develops; wash the area with water and gentle soap; apply moisturiser or cold cream
- Consult Doctor/ Dermatologist if rashes develop
- If you are already suffering from a known skin disease; ask your skin/ dermatologist before playing holi
- Try using cleansing milk or gentle soap/Bar to remove colours
- Apply moisturiser on skin and oil on hair after cleansing
- Shampoo your hair; use conditioner
- Take appropriate care for eyes, ears and nose
- Kids have delicate skin; protect them from harmful colours.
DON’T
- Avoid colours like black/ purple / yellow, etc as they contain more harmful chemicals
- Avoid shiny or sparking Gulal
- Don’t keep on rubbing and washing the skin to remove colours
- Don’t try to remove colours in one day; it will damage your skin
