Coronavirus - Precautious To Take, Before It Encroaches Siliguri!

There has been a case of one person being quarantined in North Bengal Medical College because of a suspected case of novel coronavirus. A sample has been sent to a lab in Pune and we may be at higher odds of being affected by the threat than we originally expected. But there is no reason to panic, here are some precautions that you should take before it encroaches Siliguri!

Basic Protective Measures

Wash Your Hands: The World Health Organization has staged that washing your hands frequently with an alcohol-based rub is important. Using alcohol-based rubs prevents the virus from spreading through your hands.

Respiratory Hygiene: It is important to practice respiratory hygiene. If you are close to other people, you should cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Carry tissues around to clean your face and hands and dispose them off immediately. This is a habit that is not only good for preventing coronavirus but also germs and bacteria in general.

Social Distancing: As stated by WHO, you should maintain at least 3 feet distance between yourself and other people who are coughing, sneezing, or show signs of fever. If you are facing the same symptoms then you should be maintaining distance as well to avoid spreading germs and viruses.

Avoid Touching Sensitive Areas: You should avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth. These are the most likely parts of your body that can get contaminated and you can transfer the virus to yourself in the process.

How to Identify Symptoms

If you traveled to an area where the 2019-nCov virus (Coronavirus) has been reported, you need to inform it to your doctor immediately. The same applies if you have been close to other people who has traveled from China and is showing signs of respiratory symptoms. With a case being reported in North Bengal (reports pending), it is important to stay safe.

Here are some of the symptoms that you should be looking for:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty in Breathing
  • Respiratory infections
  • Fever

These are all common symptoms that could be linked to anything at all but are also common with the new coronavirus. It is important to address these symptoms immediately and seek medical assistance.

How to Protect Yourself

Other than the general precautions we discussed earlier, it is important to maintain proper hygiene practices if you are visiting live animal markets, animal product markets or wet markets. Avoid consuming raw or undercooked animal products. Make sure that all food at home is cooked properly to avoid chances of contamination.

  • Wash your hands, eyes and ears frequently.
  • Carry masks when traveling
  • Seek early medical care
  • Do not eat processed or stale meat
  • Handle and cook meat thoroughly
  • Do not visit affected regions in China
  • Do not spit in public

If you fall sick while traveling, inform your crew immediately so you do not put yourself or others in danger. Your safety comes first and we strongly recommend you consult us if you or your loved ones show any symptoms that are associated with coronavirus.
